Inaugural Tour de Lis Raises
$160K To Fight Cancer

Inclement weather could not prevent the Tour de Lis from being a “yellow jersey” success this past Saturday. Due to deteriorated conditions along Lakeshore Drive, officials canceled the riding of the Tour de Lis. But the weather had nothing on the cancer-beating spirit, nor the fundraising power of the events’ organizers and participants. The Tour de Lis proved, “it’s not about the ride, it’s about the cause.”

A “ride with a purpose,” the Tour de Lis was designed by volunteers whose lives had been touched by cancer. Beneficiaries of the event included the Cancer Association of GNO; the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Planet Cancer. The Tour de Lis attracted 500 riders and time trial cyclists from around the country and surpassed its original $100K fundraising goal at over $161,000, with contributions still coming in at www.tourdelis.com.

Ochsner, People’s Health and HCA led the corporate challenge for the Tour de Lis, joining with hundreds of local businesses and individuals. Committed volunteers and hopeful riders braved down pours, thunder and rain to provide support for the inaugural community event.

Riders who were not able to make it to the course due to bad weather are invited to contact us at info@tourdelis.com to arrange for pick up of goody bag and official event t-shirt while they last.

Organizers are extremely appreciative of the overall participation and support of this year’s Tour contributors, registrants, and volunteers.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event, Saturday, April 18.

We anticipate a great 2009 event along with sunny skies.
